all systems operational

I build backend systems that keep working when things break.

Senior Backend Engineer and open source contributor, in São Paulo and working remote with teams across the globe. Distributed systems, APIs and AI-assisted engineering.

  • Go
  • Java
  • Kotlin
  • Python
  • TypeScript

Open to B2B contracts worldwide

01 / Playground

Break my payment system

A client pays $42 through a gateway and two replicas. Follow the missions, or break things your way. Every step is explained below the diagram.

  • request
  • retry
  • response
  • replayed by key
  • +$charge written
  • ✕failed
Missions0/4 done
  1. Kill a replica, send again

  2. Lose a response

  3. Make the retry safe

What just happened

Each step of your next payment is explained here, in plain English.

Tracesent 0 · ok 0 · failed 0 · retries 0

Send a payment, then kill something.

02 / What I do

A backend generalist who owns the whole path

From the API contract to the code, the tests, the deploy and the 3 a.m. incident. I pick the language that fits the problem: Java and Kotlin, Go, Python or TypeScript.

  • 10+years shipping backend in production
  • 12+US banking cores integrated
  • ~20teams moved to contract testing
  • 15pull requests merged in open source projects

reliability

Distributed systems that fail safely

Retries, idempotency, failover, timeouts and the observability to prove they work. The playground above is the short version of what I do for a living.

  • Wrote an idempotency starter for Spring Boot connectors: contract-driven, Redis-backed, about 96 tests
  • Root-caused production OOM kills and tuned JVM memory, probes and autoscaling on Kubernetes

contracts

APIs other teams can trust

Contract-first design with OpenAPI, consumer-driven contract tests with Pact, and pipelines that block breaking changes before they ship.

  • Led Pact adoption across about 20 teams in payments, loans and transfers at a large bank, 50+ engineers trained
  • Built connectors for 12+ US core banking systems and a YAML-driven contract test framework

ai-native

AI-assisted engineering, with tests as the judge

I run Claude Code with versioned context: repository knowledge, architecture patterns and reusable skills. The AI drafts. Tests, contracts and a human review decide what ships.

  • Took PR review capacity from about 2 to 10+ a day with custom review agents
  • Built review agents, a Kubernetes troubleshooting agent and versioned notes for 25+ repositories

leadership

Hands-on tech lead

I lead by building next to the team: clear contracts, docs people actually read, and onboarding that does not take months.

  • Led 8 engineers on subscription payments at a global payments company
  • Cut developer onboarding from 2 months to 2 weeks

03 / Open source

I fix the libraries I use

Pull requests to the tools other teams depend on: contract testing, OpenAPI, Java frameworks and AI agents.

04 / Career

Ten years, one trace

Grouped by domain, newest first. The full history lives on LinkedIn.

  1. span:now

US core banking and Open Banking

Integration platform that connects US banks and credit unions to modern apps.

    • Connectors for 12+ core banking systems, from Apache Camel to Spring Boot on a shared API contract
    • Owner of platform libraries for data management and idempotency
    • GitOps deployments and production reliability for about 14 tenants on Kubernetes
  2. span:scale

    Global payments

Subscription payments used by services like Spotify.

    • Led 8 engineers on subscription billing
    • Encryption for data residency so the product could run in China
    • New card options for Mexico raised feature adoption by 35%
  3. span:teach

Contract testing at a large bank

Made breaking API changes visible before they reached production.

    • Pact adoption across about 20 teams in instant payments, loans and transfers
    • 50+ engineers trained, from proof of concept to rollout
    • Re-architected API governance pipelines in Kotlin and TypeScript, 55% faster
  4. span:retail

    Retail and e-commerce

Backends for physical stores and online platforms in the US and the Middle East.

    • Kafka, Spring Boot and FastAPI services for product visibility
    • Self-service tools that raised operational efficiency by 40%
  5. span:roots

    Where it started

Insurance, card receivables, logistics and prepaid cards.

    • Insurance pages from 1 second to 30 ms, support tickets down 75%
    • Led a Hyperledger Fabric proof of concept load tested at 800,000 transactions per minute
    • Before code: five years in IT infrastructure, which is why I still care about how things run

05 / Work with me

Open to B2B contracts, anywhere in the world

I work remote from São Paulo with teams on several continents. Async friendly, with good overlap with US and EU hours. Tell me what you are building.

  • Backend and API designServices, integrations and contracts that hold up under real traffic.
  • Reliability reviewsRetries, idempotency, timeouts and observability, before the incident finds them for you.
  • Contract testing rolloutPact and OpenAPI checks wired into CI, plus training for the teams.
  • AI-assisted engineeringClaude Code workflows, context and review agents your team can trust.
